Responsibilities

We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support and enhance our HR function at Barbecues Galore. In this role, you will play a key part in managing the company’s recruitment efforts, including creating and maintaining job postings, screening resumes, and conducting initial interviews to identify strong candidates.

You will also support the onboarding process, handling all employee documents, helping ensure new employees are set up for success and have a positive introduction to the organization. In addition, this role will contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of HR policies and procedures, while ensuring compliance with applicable employment legislation, both in Alberta and Ontario.

Additionally, you will be responsible for our Health & Safety department and keeping our Certificate of Recognition (COR) active. This includes hosting safety meetings, document management and completion, safety auditing, and ensuring our company health and safety manual, policies, and practices are in accordance with Alberta legislation.

This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys a mix of hands-on recruitment, day-to-day HR responsibilities, and contributing to the continued development of effective people practices.

Requirements

Recruitment & Hiring: Manage full-cycle recruitment activities, including creating and maintaining job postings, screening resumes, conducting initial interviews, and supporting hiring managers through the selection process.

· Onboarding & Employee Experience: Coordinate and continuously improve onboarding processes to ensure new hires are effectively integrated into the organization and set up for success.

· HR Processes & Continuous Improvement: Support and refine existing HR processes, while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and overall effectiveness across the employee lifecycle.

· Policies & Procedures: Develop, implement, and update company policies and procedures to reflect current practices, support business needs, and ensure clarity for employees and leadership.

· Compliance & Health & Safety: Barbecues Galore is the proud achiever of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) which means that we have a very in-depth Health & Safety program. As an HR Generalist, you will have complete oversight of this program, including document management, safety auditing, and ensuring all departments are submitting scheduled paperwork on time.

· Employee Relations: Act as a resource for employees and management, providing guidance on workplace matters and supporting the resolution of employee concerns in a professional and consistent manner.

· Performance Management: Support performance management processes, including performance reviews, goal setting, and ongoing employee development.

· Compensation & Benefits: Assist in the administration of compensation structures and employee benefits programs, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company practices.

· Training & Development: Help identify training needs and support the coordination of development initiatives to enhance employee skills and growth.

· Workplace Culture & Engagement: Contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment by supporting employee engagement initiatives and reinforcing company values.

 

Qualifications:

· A minimum of 2 years of experience in Human Resources.

· Proven experience in creating HR systems, policies, and processes from scratch is a plus.

· Knowledge of Canadian labour laws, employment standards, and HR best practices. We have separate policies and practices for Ontario and Alberta.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.

· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

· HR certification (CHRP, CHRL, etc.) is highly desirable.

· Knowledge in MS computer systems (Excel, Word, etc.)

· Computer savvy and capable of understanding and managing our internal Moodle based online HR program.

· Proficiency in HR software and tools.

· Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to take own initiative and to work strategically

· Ability to coach and apply appropriate developmental tool for each individual

· Experience with preparing and administrating progressive discipline process and performance management as well as succession planning
