Workshops presenters at Scientists in School are enthusiastic role-models who are looking to make a lasting positive impact on youth STEM interest and confidence.
The STEM Workshop Presenter position is a part-time commitment with independent scheduling.
Presenters are paid $85 for each completed workshop.
Deliver high quality, hands-on Scientists in School workshops in accordance with Scientists in School's mandate.
Participate in onboarding training and ongoing developement opportunities.
Communicate with teachers and/or community partners on a timely basis to schedule assigned workshops.
Maintain an accurate record of workshop data through web-based application, adhering to organizational timelines.
Submit expense reports to Scientists in School on a bi-weekly basis.
Continually strive to enhance presentation skills.
Maintain workshop materials kit in a safe and professional condition.
Participate in presenter organizational meetings.
Share ideas with other presenters through consultation and team meetings.
Adhere to safety guidelines as outlined in the Scientists in School Safety Manual.
Interact in a positive and professional manner with school personnel or representative of the workshop host(s).
Science, engineering or math degree preferred. BEd or ECE degree will be considered.
Knowledge and experience in the field of science and/or engineering.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Dynamic presentation style suitable for young people aged 4-13.
Ability to express ideas clearly to children and adults.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to move materials bins or equipment in the workshop topic kit, weighing as much as 22kg.
Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Sufficient space to store the workshop topic kit(s) and transport in vehicle.
Valid Drivers Licence and use of vehicle is imperative.
Proficiency using webmail, internet applications and videoconferencing hardware and software.
Access to high bandwidth internet.
French & English biliingualism is an asset.
Successful candidates will be required to obtain a satisfactory Police Records Check for the vulnerable sector.
