Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Develop, prepare, and deliver engaging STEM and robotics instructional programs for K–12 students covering robotics systems, mechanical design, programming, sensors, CAD fundamentals, engineering principles, and the engineering design process.
  • Design, update, and continuously improve STEM and robotics curriculum, lesson plans, instructional materials, project-based learning activities, and classroom resources to meet students' learning objectives and varying skill levels.
  • Provide classroom instruction and hands-on technical training using robotics platforms including VEX IQ, VEX V5, programming software, autonomous coding, and related engineering technologies.
  • Teach students engineering design principles through brainstorming, prototyping, robot construction, testing, troubleshooting, performance analysis, and continuous design improvement.
  • Assess students’ progress, identify learning needs, provide constructive feedback, and support students in improving technical knowledge, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Guide students through robotics projects, engineering notebooks, programming challenges, design reviews, and STEM learning activities.
  • Develop training plans and learning pathways to help students progress from introductory robotics concepts to advanced robotics applications.
  • Prepare and mentor students for VEX Robotics competitions, including technical reviews, robot design and testing, engineering documentation, competition rules, and teamwork skills.
  • Conduct robotics practices, technical workshops, competition simulations, and performance reviews to strengthen students' technical knowledge, critical thinking, and competition readiness.
  • Evaluate robot performance, identify technical issues, troubleshoot hardware and software problems, and provide technical guidance to improve robot functionality and overall team performance.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment by establishing classroom management practices, safety procedures, and effective instructional practices.
  • Support the training and mentoring of assistant instructors by sharing curriculum resources, teaching methods, classroom management practices, and best practices for STEM.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, learning objectives, course pathways, robotics program development, competition preparation, and educational goals.
  • Maintain robotics equipment, competition fields, classroom materials, tools, batteries, and replacement parts to ensure safe and effective instructional delivery.
  • Remain current with developments in robotics technology, STEM education methodologies, and VEX Robotics Competition rules and incorporate relevant updates into instructional programs and student training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, STEM Education, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in robotics instruction, STEM education, engineering education, technical training, or other related teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering STEM and robotics educational programs, including curriculum, lesson plans, instructional materials, and hands-on project-based learning activities.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring students or robotics teams participating in VEX Robotics, FIRST Robotics, LEGO Robotics, or other competitive robotics programs is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of robotics systems, mechanical design, autonomous programming, sensors, CAD software, , engineering design principles, and troubleshooting of robotics hardware and software.

  • Experience assessing student learning outcomes and adapting instructional methods to meet diverse educational needs.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, leadership, and mentoring skills, with the ability to motivate, engage, and support students in both classroom and competition settings.
  • Experience working with children and youth in STEM education, robotics programs, after-school programs, or similar educational environments is an asset.
  • Proficiency in robotics programming languages or platforms such as Python, VEXcode, or equivalent programming environments is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends during robotics competition seasons and special STEM education events.
